Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a popular public speaking event organizer. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency which hosts videos and commentary analyzing the representation of women in pop cultural. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit site for education that investigates the representation of women in pop culture narratives - is created and is directed by Sarkeesian. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her main focus. In addition, Sarkeesian discusses issues of specifically targeted harassment online against women and other minorities who are marginalized. Sarkeesian, who has an MA in Social and Political Thought from York University, is a sought after public speaker. She has spoken at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. When she was a student at the university, Sarkeesian became fascinated by the issue of gender identity and women's rights from a young age. It was a girl who wanted to create an online series which would explore how gender is represented in video games. But, she was the victim of online harassment. Her determination was not slowed by the assault, actually, it just reinforced her determination to be a media critic and feminist. Sarkeesian has been awarded several awards for her contributions to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded many awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency, an educational non-profit that examines how women are represented in popular culture narratives.
