Her parents were designers for interiors Sharon Anna Kathryn Shana Gunn & Clemens Gunn Senior. Santa Fe Preparatory School is where she received her diploma in 1986. She studied theater at Northwestern University and graduated with her degree in 1990. Gunn was studying at the British American Drama Academy in London during the fall of 1988. She shared a home with Pamela Adlon after moving to Laurel Canyon Los Angeles. Gunn was best known as Skyler in the AMC's Breaking drama. In 2013, and 2014, she won an award called the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Leading Female Actress in Drama Series. She also wrote an opinion article in August of 2013 to The New York Times, discussing the negative reception of her portrayal.
